Interview with KD

~~~~~~~~~~~~Here is a writers interview with KD!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. First off, How many books have you published?
None yet! But I’m in the query process, and I’ve had two agents request partials.
2. How long have you been writing?
Twenty-five years? Twenty-seven? I’m thinking I started my first story at about twelve.
3. What has inspired you to write?
I can’t not write. If I go a few days without writing, I get cranky. A few more days, and I’m downright mean.
4. What sacrifices did you have to make for you to write and publish your first book? The ones after that?
I’ve spent a lot of time working on my craft. I’ve actually written seven novels in draft, and edited several of them. Only one has been polished enough to begin sending out. So I guess I’ve poured a lot of time into it, and a good
amount of money into supplies. I…have an addiction to office supply stores.
The ones after the first I hope will be easier! But there’s still a lot of editing to be done. And though I enjoy the process, after a while you just want to throw the book in a corner and go write something new.
5. About how many hours and days did it take you to write your book?
The first book took a year, and it was 249,000 words. The second took a month, and it was 65,000 words. I can write a hurried first draft–more like a really detailed outline–during NaNo, and it will nearly double in size when I edit it.
6. Are you happy that you went through all that to write and publish your book?
My philosophy is, I
have
to write. I might as well get paid for it. Rejection is hard, but even that is worth it. I love sharing my stories.
7. Was it worth it to you?
Writing is hard, but not writing is harder. And I do enjoy it. I even like editing!
8. Finally, what advice would you give a first time writer?
Keep writing! Write every day, no excuses. Try new things, keep the flow going. No writing is ever wasted; every sentence teaches you something.
