A clip of Nathan (human were-wolf hybrid)

by sapphire on August 1, 2010

He could never really go “home”- could never even step foot on the land that his family once owned. He slept at his sister’s or at his cousin’s places. He would never see his father again- he was dead, and his mother was somewhere, and didn’t want to see him, or didn’t want to be found. His little brothers were somewhere too, probably dead. Zacamin wanted to be a knight; maybe he went to go learn? Zero always talked about being a farmer; maybe he went to be a servant on a farm? He still had his brother Qual, and he didn’t seem to want to leave him, which was fantastic. Then he had his cousins, who refused to go anywhere miles away without the Hawkin brothers. The HB was a pretty tight group- everyone was respected and everyone was expected to include people of the group. An Ambush was being planned? Everyone had to do it, that was the leader, Reebater’s rules. Oh yeah- there were rules in the HB but you didn’t have to follow them, especially if you were Nathan. Nathan never obeyed rules… and Laws? He broke laws all the time. He was cool…. He wasn’t evil, but he wasn’t exactly nice either. He was a rich boy, with rich friends and rich family, and the poor were looked down upon by him. Everyone who was poor were “peasants” and the HB hated the “peasants”.

The HB that day were hanging out at some bar wondering what to do. Reebater was at the head of the table, giving everyone a hard time. He even took out his flask and started to drink from it- sue him…. Arrya’s husband was a drinker. A rich drinker too. Nathan sighed as everyone argued over where they should go- all he wanted to do was practice sword fighting- but no one was listening. Soon, they decided to go to the desert. “Why ta Desert?” Nathan complained as he dragged behind his “group”. Yeah, he was irritated, and whining, and therefore everyone ignored the kid, because they were used to him acting this way. Nathan was childish…. And they all thought he was a little insane. People said he did that to show off.. or maybe because he was screwed up because he was part were-wolf? He didn’t have any parents, or someone to teach him what was right/wrong or how to read… Reebater could be a “chaperone” and could also be responsible for the 18 year old, but- he didn’t care! The boy was his wife’s brother and so was Qual, and Reebater was said to be “mad” himself. No one was around him who would want to teach poor Nathan. Reewill was a full werewolf, but as luck would have it there were some problems with him too. Reewill was an orphan and, though the HB loved him, he didn’t know how to be a respectable werewolf.

“Sucka- come ‘ere and took a lock at ‘is!” Nathan ran up to Reebater, who was strutting out of the bar at the lead. Nathan showed everyone his find- a little lizard. “Eat it!” said Reewill, coming up from behind. “I’ll give you 1,000 shillings if you eat the lizard!” In the HB, this was an ultimate challenge, and everyone laughed. The slaves, who were carrying the water and supplies, looked worried- if Nathan ate the lizard, there would be no end to his complaints. Everyone stopped and looked at the Hawkin kids, who looked at each other. Qual shook his head, and with a smile Nathan flipped Reewill off, and started to walk away. Getting the joke, everyone laughed and started to run, since Reebater was yelling for them to “freakin keep upp.”

It took some time before they actually came to the desert, and to Nathan’s disappointment, the sunset seemed to be happening. “Kids, looks like a full moon is going to happen TONIGHT! WHOOO!” Reewill yelled and patted the half werewolfs on the back. Yes, Qual was half werewolf too, but he wasn’t as bad as Nathan was. Probably because Nathan blamed his brother’s death on himself… he still wanted Faren killed, you know. Nathan whined, and everyone seemed excited. Nathan and Reewill and Qual- aren’t going to sleep with them? How sweet will that be?! Reebater silenced everyone and ordered them to set up camp at these ruins, hidden from view by this fallen stonewall. The HB did as they were told, and they drank some water and let the slaves have what was left of it, and Nathan watched as the sun disappeared on the horizon. “Ah dear lords…”

He had mixed feelings about changing into a wolf. Sometimes it was fun… running through the trees without a care in the world and tasty meat, but sometimes it was bad- he left his friends and totally forgot about being human, so he did things he wouldn’t normally do- like attack people. He hated to become an animal, and it just wasn’t fair but he didn’t know how to control it or if there was a possibility that he would be able to control it. “This is so rigged…” he complained to Qual as they decided to split away from the group. When wolves, Qual, Reewill, and Nathan didn’t necessarily get along- since they all went to different packs. Nathan usually went to the “Walkers” pack in the woods, Qual was a “lone wolf” and wasn’t a part of a pack yet, and Reewall went to the “Kellerin” Pack in the mountains. Nathan wandered around the ruins, wondering when he was going to change. “I wisssh it’d be morning already,” he muttered to himself. His wolf senses started to come back as his skin started to get hairier, and Nathan scratched his ear. He watched as the sun seemed to disappear, and the moon- he saw the moon fade brighter and brighter.

It was time.

He sniffed in the air and sensed deer… and a being. He’d deal with the deer later but… the being was… a human? No… not human… and suddenly, Nathan saw the man in the distance. Oh no! He was going to see him change! Nathan looked around for a place to cover himself but it was too late… The 18 year old howled as the pain started to happen, and his bones started to move. He howled as loud as he could and he started shrinking to the ground, his arms and legs started to become legs and paws, and he grew a muzzle and tons of hair. His flashy clothes fell to the ground as he didn’t need them anymore, and the wolf blinked and looked around. Night! Night was for hunting! Wait- what are those? The wolf looked down at the clothing, and with a snarl ripped them apart, and looked for the owner of the rags. He howled once more, telling someone about his find and then took off toward what smelled like another wolf.

It was a little cold but his coat was warm. His paws hit the sand with ease, though he tripped when he sped up. He fell down on his side and whined at the pain. He stayed there, listening to the desert noises and looking around the ruins. It looked like no one was around, and he was far away enough from the HB to not care about them, so he sat down and howled about his fall. Yeah, Nathan was talkative in this form just like his human form…. that sure didn’t change. He wagged his tail and panted a bit before standing up and walking/ sniffing around the sand. It smelled like other wolves had been around here – were they from his pack? No… didn’t smell like it.

Nathan kept walking around, ignoring the smell of deer. He wasn’t hungry and plus, he was waiting for his pack. Never hunt without the pack, they always said. And so, Nathan waited. Suddenly, Nathan once again smelled a werewolf . He wasn’t a werewolf, he was sure of that, so he decided to go “check him out” and to go see why he was on his pack’s territory (Or, he just assumed this was his pack’s territory). He howled again, this time yelling “Hello” to anyone out there.

Nathan looked at the stars in the sky, and blinked at the moon. He got distracted and looked at the ball… wanting to get at it. He swiped at the air a couple times, got bored and continued to wander the Turon Ruins.
